When we learn of the disappearance of someone, family member, friend, or acquaintance, it is customary to send a sympathy card immediately. It is often the hardest time to write, even three or four simple sentences, when the pain of loss is very present. It is possible to send an e-mail, but writing a little note, or sending a card, is still preferable. There are sympathy card messages for friend.
The bereaved person can keep your token of sympathy in an album, a box, to come back to it sometime later. Handwrite your address on the envelope, preferably in black or blue ink. Do not use a printer. If you knew the missing person but were not close to his family, identify yourself, for example, Mr. Axel Girard (work colleague of).

A few words are enough. It’s hard to think outside the box in three or four sentences. Keep it simple, don’t use words that could hurt people who are already down even more. When in doubt, remain modest. The sympathy card messages for friend are:
- Be satisfied with a simple introduction; your recipient knows why you are writing to him (example: “It is with great sadness that I learned of the disappearance of …”).
- Express your condolences. Avoid the words “death,” “death,” rather speak of “loss” or “disappearance.” A simple sentence like: “I am appalled by the terrible news. I am wholehearted with you” may suffice.
- If the person disappeared after a long illness, it might be appropriate to mention it: “If the cancer of… was a real ordeal, he knew how to face this terrible disease with a courage which commands respect”.
- If you can, do not hesitate to offer your help: “If you need help with the administrative procedures, do not hesitate to call me.”
- End with a simple and sincere sentence: “I am wholehearted with you,” “Know that we are very close to you in thought.”
